All RICE baskets are handmade from raffia, a natural material that varies in colour. This variation is also reflected in the dyeing: sometimes the colour is light, and other times more intense. As a result, no two baskets are exactly alike. The shape may vary slightly too. We think that’s part of the charm—you can see that each product is handmade. If you order several baskets at once, we’ll send ones that are as close as possible in shade and shape. Unfortunately, we’re unable to show photos of the different variations.

About the material: Raffia fibre is a wonderful natural material made from palm leaves. Rice’s raffia comes from Madagascar, where every raffia product is made with care. The products are made in two villages in the mountains of Madagascar, where production helps provide the villagers with better access to resources. It supports the livelihoods of more than 300 families on the Red Island. As raffia is a natural material and the baskets are handmade, each product will vary slightly in colour, shape and size. Colours will fade if the product is exposed to constant sunlight. Avoid contact with water, as it may cause the colour to run.
