"A quality crib is much more than just a baby bed. It serves as the child's first secure base, where safety, comfort, and quality have been considered from the very beginning." – Anja Lytzen, owner of Lirum Larum Leg

Cribs – A Safe Start to Your Child's Sleep

Choosing the first crib is one of the most important decisions when creating a safe sleeping environment for your baby. It is where your child will spend many hours every day during the first years of life, so a crib must be secure, comfortable, and built to last for many years.

At Lirum Larum Leg, you'll find a carefully selected range of cribs for babies where quality, functionality, and beautiful baby-friendly design are paramount. We've chosen models from renowned brands known for their high quality, thoughtful details, and stunning Scandinavian design, so you can create the best conditions for your child's sleep from day one.

That's why a crib is the best choice for the first years

A crib provides your baby with a safe and clearly defined sleeping space, ensuring your little one can sleep securely both during the day and at night. The high slatted sides offer essential protection, especially as your baby learns to roll, sit up, and eventually stand.

Most babies use a crib from birth up to around 2 or 3 years of age. Many designs come with an adjustable base, allowing you to raise the mattress in the early stages and lower it as your child becomes more active. This smart feature makes daily life easier for you as a parent and also increases safety as your child grows.

Additionally, many cribs can be converted into a compact junior bed, extending their usefulness and making the transition from baby to toddler smoother and more cost-effective.

When is the right time to move your child from a crib?

There isn’t a fixed age at which your child should move from a crib to a junior bed—it all depends on your child’s individual development.

During the first few months, you can set the bed base to its highest position to make lifting your child in and out easier. Once your child can sit up on their own, the bed base should be lowered to the lowest setting. This increases safety and makes it much harder for your increasingly active child to climb over the sides.

For most children, a crib will work perfectly up until around age 2, and many won’t be ready for a junior bed until about age 3. If you opt for a convertible crib, you’ll have a solution that supports your child through several stages of growth.

This includes the Sebra Sengen – Baby & Jr, which can be easily transformed from a crib to a junior bed, as well as the Oliver Furniture Wood Mini+, which are designed to grow with your child from the newborn stage through many years ahead.

Which crib should you choose?

When choosing a crib for your baby, there are several important factors to consider.

Adjustable Bed Base

A height-adjustable base makes it easier to lift your newborn in and out. Later, the base can be lowered as your child becomes more active.

Crib that Grows with Your Child

Many of our cribs can be converted into junior beds using conversion kits. This means the bed can be used for many years and accompany your child through several stages of development.

Design and Materials

A crib often becomes a central piece of furniture in the nursery. Therefore, many parents choose a model with timeless Scandinavian design that fits naturally into their home and can be passed down.

Frequently Asked Questions about Cribs

When should a baby sleep in a crib?

A baby can sleep in a cot from birth. However, many choose a bedside crib or a Co-Sleeper for the first few months before transitioning to the cot when the family is ready.
How long can a child sleep in a crib?

Most children use the crib until they are about 2-3 years old. This depends on the child's development, size, and whether they start climbing out. Remember to lower the crib base as soon as your child can sit up on their own.
When should the base be lowered in a crib?

You should lower the bed base when your child starts to sit up or stand on their own. The low position makes it harder for your child to climb over the edge, increasing safety.
What size is a crib?

The most common size is 60 x 120 cm, but many also opt for a 70 x 140 cm crib, which can often be converted into a junior bed.
Is a cot better than a bedside crib?

A bedside crib is ideal for the first few months when your baby needs to sleep close to the parents. A cot provides more space and can typically be used for a longer period. Therefore, many families choose a bedside crib initially and then a cot.
Which crib should I choose?

That depends on your needs. If you want a solution that will last for years to come, a crib that can later be transformed into a junior bed is an excellent choice.
Which crib is the best?

The best crib is the one that fits both your child's needs and your everyday routine. Many parents opt for a model that grows with their child, ensuring the bed can be used for years to come.

One of the most popular models is the Sebra Sengen – Baby & Jr, which can be extended from a crib to a junior bed. This allows for a smooth and secure transition, letting your child remain in a familiar environment while the bed grows alongside them.

Another popular option is the Oliver Furniture Wood Mini+, developed as a flexible bed system. With the right conversion parts, this bed easily adapts to your child's various stages of growth, making it suitable from the very first months and well into their childhood.

Which crib is designed to grow with your child?

If you're looking for a bed with long-term durability, it may be advantageous to choose a crib that can be converted into a junior bed. This way, you get a bed with extended longevity and a wise investment.

Models like Sebra Sengen – Baby & Jr. and Oliver Furniture Wood Mini+ are designed to support your child through multiple development stages. As your child grows, the bed can be expanded with conversion parts, allowing you to avoid investing in a completely new bed after just a few years.
