“MaMaMeMo is one of the brands I’m particularly fond of, because it succeeds in turning the everyday into something children can continue to play with. The toys are simple, beautifully made and truly wonderful for imaginative role-play.” – Anja Lytzen, owner of Lirum Larum Leg

MaMaMeMo – Danish toys for imaginative role play

MaMaMeMo is Danish-designed toy that takes its inspiration from something children know very well: the everyday world around them. The kitchen, a trip to the shops, the workshop or life with a little baby is transformed into imaginative play in the children's room. MaMaMeMo is particularly known for its popular wooden toy food and play kitchens, but the range also includes dolls, doll's prams, tools, musical instruments, dress-up clothes and toys for outdoor play.

At Lirum Larum Leg, you will find a wide selection of MaMaMeMo toys for both younger and older children. All the products share a high level of play value and give children the freedom to decide for themselves where their imagination takes them.

MaMaMeMo Play Food – when everyday life becomes part of play

It is above all MaMaMeMo play food that has made this Danish brand a favourite with many families with children. And it’s easy to see why.

A carton of milk, a fried egg, a rum ball, koldskål or a piece of Danish pastry may seem like perfectly ordinary things to us adults. In children’s hands, they can become the start of a café, a grocery shop, a birthday celebration or a meal served to dolls and teddy bears.

The distinctive appeal of MaMaMeMo’s wooden play food lies precisely in how recognisable it is. The brand deliberately creates realistic products that children encounter in their everyday lives. This makes it easy for them to join in the pretend play and imitate what they have seen their mum, dad or other adults do.

At our store, you’ll find, among other things:

  • MaMaMeMo wooden play food
  • cakes, ice cream and other sweet treats
  • fruit and vegetables
  • milk, yoghurt and other everyday groceries
  • kitchen appliances and accessories
  • tea sets and dinnerware
  • picnic and café sets
  • ice cream stalls, shop counters and more for grocery-shop role play

Play Kitchen from MaMaMeMo – Room for Little Chefs and Big Ideas

A MaMaMeMo play kitchen can quickly become one of the places in a child’s room where stories unfold time and again.

Here, children can make breakfast for their dolls, bake a birthday cake, open a restaurant or serve afternoon coffee to the whole family. By combining the play kitchen with MaMaMeMo play food, kitchen appliances and tableware, the play world can grow alongside the child’s interests.

That is one of the great advantages of this kind of toy. You do not have to create the entire play world all at once. A few pieces of play food are enough to get started, and you can add, for example, a hand mixer, an air fryer, a dishwashing set or a larger play kitchen later on.

Role-Playing Strengthens Imagination, Language Skills, and Social Skills

MaMaMeMo places particular emphasis on role play—and for good reason. When children pretend to be chefs, shopkeepers, mothers, fathers, craftspeople or something else entirely, they are also processing some of what they experience in the world around them.

MaMaMeMo itself describes role play as important to a child’s cognitive, social and language development, among other things.

At around two years of age, role play often begins quite simply. A doll is tucked into bed, a teddy bear is fed, or a pot is stirred. From around the age of three, stories can become longer and more imaginative, and the child may begin moving between different roles.

This means that the same MaMaMeMo toy can be used in new ways as the child develops.

And perhaps that is precisely why simple role play has such lasting appeal: There is no single right way to play.

MaMaMeMo for Different Ages and Interests

MaMaMeMo primarily develops toys with children from around 2 to 8 years of age in mind, but the recommended age always depends on the individual product.

For younger children, simple play food, doll play or basic musical instruments can be an ideal choice. As children grow a little older, play can develop into more elaborate role play with play kitchens, shops, tools and dress-up costumes.

At Lirum Larum Leg, you will also find MaMaMeMo products for several different play worlds:

MaMaMeMo dolls and doll accessories invite children to engage in nurturing role play with dolls, doll prams and more.

MaMaMeMo tools give little builders the opportunity to screw, drill, build and imitate the grown-ups’ projects.

MaMaMeMo musical instruments such as xylophones, guitars, maracas and tambourines invite children to explore rhythms, singing and musical play.

MaMaMeMo dress-up costumes offer yet another opportunity to step into a role and let the imagination shape the story.

From play food to dolls, tools and musical toys

Although MaMaMeMo is synonymous with play food and play kitchens for many people, the brand’s universe is now so much more.

A child who loves helping out in the kitchen can have a play kitchen of their own. The little builder can get out the drill. The doll can come along for a stroll in the doll’s pram, while the curious child can take a magnifying glass and an insect net into the garden.

This makes it easy to choose MaMaMeMo products based on your child’s personality and interests – and to combine several products.

If your child already has a play kitchen, for example, new play food or kitchen accessories make an obvious gift choice. A shop counter can expand kitchen play into grocery-shop role-play, while dress-up clothes can add another layer to imaginative play.

This also makes MaMaMeMo an excellent gift choice for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds and older children, as you will find both small gift ideas and larger toys that can provide the setting for many hours of play.
