I Tintin i Amerika går turen til Chicago under forbudstiden i 1930'erne, hvor Tintin og Terry hurtigt får problemer. Byens gangsterbosser med Al Capone i spidsen har forberedt sig på den unge reporters ankomst, og snart befinder Tintin sig midt i en farlig konflikt mellem rivaliserende forbryderbander.
