Gyldendal’s medium edition of The Fantastic Bus brings Jakob Martin Strid’s acclaimed work to younger readers. In the poor district of Ahnstarr City, houses are being demolished one by one, and little Timo is so ill that there is almost no hope left.
An old legend tells of Balanka, a land where healing saffron lilies grow. Led by the cat Spir, the animals build a giant bus and set off across the North Pole, up into the stratosphere and on to fantastic lands. The story celebrates the transformative power of imagination, creativity and art.
In 2024, the book became the first Danish work to win the Nordic Council Children and Young People’s Literature Prize. At 204 pages, it’s a wonderful read for children aged 5 to 9 and anyone who loves a grand adventure.
