Scooters for Kids – Fun, Freedom, and Speed at Child's Height

Scooters for kids have recently taken playgrounds, driveways, and sidewalks by storm. They have become an everyday staple for many families—serving both as a mode of transport and as a fun, active outdoor playtime alternative to bikes or roller skates. It's a fantastic way for kids to enhance their motor skills, get moving, and view the world from a fresh perspective.

At Lirum Larum Leg, we love products that combine quality, functionality, and fun—which is why we have curated a wide and carefully selected range of scooters for children of all ages.

I must admit that scooters have also gained their rightful place in our home. My own children love riding scooters, and it has become their favorite way to get around. My eldest proudly rides his metallic Micro scooter, perfectly suited to his size and weight. Micro Scooter, Sprite LED - Silver Matte

And the little one has a three-wheeled scooter from Scoot and Ride in the bright yellow color that he's been using since just after his third birthday. It's low, stable, and easy to steer—and I'll never forget how proud he was when he first rolled off on his own. Since then, he almost refuses to walk anywhere if he's not allowed to bring his scooter.

It’s a joy to see them speeding side by side—laughing, focused, and free. As a parent, it's a gift to find something practical, developmentally beneficial, and that brings so much happiness to the kids.

Which scooter should I choose for my child?

It depends on age, needs, and temperament. There are scooters for 2-year-olds, 3-year-olds, 4-year-olds, and up, so it’s important to pick one that suits your child's level and motor skills.

Which brands of scooters do we carry?

We have handpicked some of the most popular and well-tested brands on the market, and here are the key ones:

  • Scoot and Ride—known for their 2-in-1 models and smooth transitions between balance bikes and scooters. Perfect for the youngest! Choose the highway kick 1, ideal from as young as 1 year, and progress with the Highway Kick 3 and Highway Kick 5 for older kids.

  • Micro —producing high-quality scooters with long durability. We offer a wide selection of both beginner and advanced trick scooters, perfect for older and more adventurous kids ready to explore more with their scooter.

  • Puky—features stylish and retro-inspired design that's easy to fall in love with. Puky scooters are perfect as a "first scooter" for the smallest since they have two small rear wheels, ensuring more stability than a 2-wheeled scooter. Models are available from 2 years and up.

  • Streetsurfing—innovative design with a strong focus on safety and stability. Løbehjulene are perfect for practicing tricks or simply using as a regular scooter.

What is the best scooter for a 2-3 year old?

When little legs start exploring the world, stability and balance are vital. We recommend the Scoot and Ride Highwaykick 1, which is ideal. You get a combined balance bike and scooter, allowing the child to grow with it, available in many beautiful colors.

Which scooter is good for 4-5 year olds?

Once your child is more confident with their balance and ready for some speed, the Micro Mini Deluxe is a fantastic choice. It also has three wheels but a lighter construction. Thanks to the patented lean-and-steer mechanism, this unique scooter not only encourages movement and play but also develops balance and motor skills. Available in many lovely colors—which is important at that age!

Which scooter suits school children?

For older children using their scooter to get to school, sports, or playdates, we recommend the Micro Sprite. They are robust, foldable, and easy to take in the car or on the bus.

What is the best scooter for tricks?

Has your child started doing hops and spins? Then it's time for a real trick scooter with a strong structure and low weight. We recommend scooters from Micro or Streetsurfing, as they are designed for tricks and speed at the skatepark.

When can a child use a scooter?

Typically, children can start with a 3-wheeled scooter from 1-2 years of age. They can already practice balance and coordination at this stage. By 4-5 years, many can progress to 2-wheeled models. Remember—the most important factors are your child’s courage and motor skill level, not just age.

Remember the helmet!

Regardless of age and skill level, it’s a great idea to pair a scooter with a good helmet. We, of course, carry a wide selection of child-friendly helmets in bright colors that match the scooter and make safety a little more fun.Happy little girl with blonde hair, wearing a light blue helmet and smiling
