Every RICE basket is handcrafted from raffia, a natural material that varies in colour by nature. These subtle differences also appear in the dyeing process—sometimes colours are lighter, sometimes richer—so every basket is truly one of a kind. The same goes for shape; slight variations are a testament to the artistry behind each piece. We embrace this handmade charm and, when you order multiple baskets, we'll select ones that are as closely matched in shade and shape as possible. About the material: Raffia fibres are a remarkable, eco-friendly material obtained from palm leaves, and Rice's raffia is sourced directly from Madagascar. Every raffia product is crafted with care in two villages in Madagascar’s mountains, supporting local communities and providing resources for over 300 families on the Red Island. Because raffia is natural and every basket is handmade, small differences in colour, form, and size are to be expected. To preserve your basket, avoid prolonged sunlight, which may fade colours, and keep away from water to prevent colour running.
