All RICE baskets are handmade from raffia, a natural material that varies organically in color—this uniqueness is carried through to the dyeing process, where shades may range from subtle to vivid. No two baskets are ever exactly alike, and minor differences in shape are also part of their handmade character. We believe these unique touches add to their charm. About the material: Raffia fibers are a superb natural material sourced from palm leaves. Rice's raffia originates from Madagascar, where every raffia product is crafted with care. Production takes place in two mountain villages, helping to improve resources and livelihoods for the local communities. In fact, this work sustains over 300 families on the Red Island. Due to the natural origin of raffia and the handcrafted process, each basket will differ slightly in color, shape, and size. Please note: colors may fade with prolonged exposure to sunlight, and contact with water can cause color transfer.
