All RICE baskets are handcrafted from Raffia, a naturally variable material, meaning both the color and dye intensity may differ: occasionally lighter, sometimes deeper in tone. No two baskets will be completely identical—each one is unique in both color and shape. We see this as an important part of the charm and the proof of genuine handcraft. If you order several baskets, we'll do our best to send ones that match closely in shade and form. Please note, we cannot provide photos of individual variations.

About the material: Raffia fibers are a wonderful natural resource harvested from palm leaves. Rice sources their raffia in Madagascar, where these products are lovingly handmade. They are produced in two mountain villages, supporting improved resources and livelihoods for the local inhabitants. The production sustains more than 300 families on the Red Island. Because raffia is a natural material and each basket is made by hand, expect slight variations in color, size, and shape. Keep in mind: colors may fade with constant exposure to sunlight, and water contact may result in color transfer.
